- Touch N' Go E-Wallet Users Lost Thousands To Cyber Criminals!
Although this article is not directly related to automotive news, since the Touch n' Go E-Wallet is one of the preferred e-wallet for Malaysians, most Malaysians depend on Touch n' Go to take public transport or to pay tolls. Therefore, with the recent cases of electronic wallet theft, we need to be more aware!
As the world is slowly moving towards zero-cash payment methods, criminal groups have also turned to cyber criminals, using technology to steal data and money from victims.
Recently, eight local teachers reported that their data had been leaked, resulting in hundreds to tens of thousands of ringgits being transferred from their Touch n' Go E-Wallet. These teachers complained to a political party, hoping that the police, Touch n' Go, and everyone would be aware of this fraud.
The teachers' Touch n Go E-Wallet was hacked, and it was inexplicably reloaded and transferred within a short period. Each reloads amounted to several hundred ringgits.
It is worth mentioning that the reload was made possible because the electronic wallets are linked to credit cards or bank accounts, which allowed the cyber criminals took advantage of them.
Although e-wallet payments are a modern trend, Caricarz urged all readers to be careful! Do not bind your credit card or bank account to your e-wallets for auto-reload purposes. Even if you use your credit card or bank account to top up, delete the stored information after the successful transaction. At the same time, do not store so much money in the electronic wallet. Though it may be troublesome to key in your details every time you want to reload, it is better than losing your life savings.
With more cases of electronic wallet hacking, we hope that the police, Touch n' Go, banks and other electronic wallet operating companies can improve the protection system and reduce the risk of hacked electronic wallets.
