Determining whether a car is attractively designed or not is rather subjective. Beauty of its hood-to-body ratio, roof slope angle and overall aesthetics, are all in the eye of the beholder.

Undeniably, many of the modern builds have turned some heads around, but the classics are where it’s at, as several icons have proved to be everlastingly gorgeous.

There are plenty of lookers lurking out there, so CariCarz has come up with another list to narrow it down. This time it’s all about the top 10 vintage cars with the most captivating design.

1. 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB

To many, nothing beats a Ferrari, and this classic is simply a divine combination of sleek bodywork and perfect proportions.

It’s likely the 275 GTB was a response to Jaguar’s E-Type, which debuted a few years earlier and a model which Enzo Ferrari himself described as ‘the most beautiful car ever made’.

2. 1966 Ford GT40 and 2006 Ford GT

This is a beauty and the beast rolled into one. The Ford GT or GT40 depending on which era it’s from, was a mid-engine coupe designed to beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

While the design was meant to win races, it’s also one of the best-looking cars of all time, which was improved for the better in the 2nd generation 2006 version.

3. 1965 Jaguar E-Type

Known as the car that got Enzo’s seal of approval, this beautiful Jaguar E-Type is another specimen of a clean silhouette and perfect proportions.

However, not the same can be said for its modern counterpart, the Jaguar F-Type, which is not quite as perfect in execution, but still quite a looker.

4. 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV

Crowned as the first supercar, this marvel earned that title with a mid-engine V12 powertrain. It looks like it’s hitting triple-digit speeds even when idled and has aged like fine wine.

Notably, the Lamborghini Miura’s architecture introduced the world to the concept of beauty and power coming together in a low-slung shape.

5. 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California

Ranking in at the fifth spot is another Italian beauty from the 1960s. This car was stunning even before it got its Hollywood spotlight in a John Hughes movie.

Though, that role simply widened the awareness of how well Ferrari refined the shape of its 250 series cars, which started in the early 1950s and was perfected by 1961.

6. 1963 Chevrolet Corvette

A personal favorite, the first year of the 2nd generation Corvette. Significantly, 1963 was the only model year to feature the split window design.

Although it creates a visibility challenge for drivers, its overall shape still holds up 60 years later. Not to forget, its flip-around quad headlights that add to the Corvette’s cool car status.

7. 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL

Offered in both coupe and roadster form, it’s the iconic ‘gullwing’ doors on the coupe version that complete this German sports car’s legendary status.

Aside from the upward opening doors, something else to admire is its long hood silhouette that has a large three-pointed star dominating on its prominent grille.

8. 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

Another favorite, the Ford Mustang is a muscle car icon and the Carroll Shelby versions are the ones to have. Only 562 examples of the earliest Shelby Mustang were built in 1965.

In spite of its sporty two-door styling most of its underpinnings came from more mundane Ford saloon cars, and the most popular engines were monstrous straight sixes.

9. 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS

With nearly six decades of production, it’s not easy pickings to single out a 911 to honor for design, but the 1973 Carrera RS is a no brainer.

Not only does it have the classic 911 profile, it does so with cool ‘Carrera’ door graphics and classic five-spoke wheels. This one also happens to offer an incredible driving experience.

10. 1970 Dodge Challenger

Last but not least, the second muscle car to be featured on this list is among the beastliest ever made. One that inspired the modern Dodge Challenger revival in 2008.

The original Dodge Challenger has appeared in numerous movie roles, often featuring its ultimate 426 Hemi, 8-cylinder engine that effortlessly spins the rear wheels and burns the tires.

All in all, these are just a few of the abundant examples of exquisite machines roaming out there in the world, and what defines a good-looking car are highly individual, so take your pick.

That said, for all the other monikers that didn’t make its way on to this list, fret not, there will be more coming.
