- 3 Dies On The Spot After Mat Rempits Lose Control In An Illegal Race
Three persons were killed and three others were hurt at the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway in Penang early this morning, July 17.
Muhamad Shazwan Hakim, a 22-year-old man, was one among the casualties. The other two are Ahmad Haikal Naif Ahmad Nazrul, age 19, and Muhamad Eizreel Muhamad Roszadi, age 25.
Muhamad Syazwan Hafis, Muhamad Shazwan's twin brother, is one of the three injured.
The bodies of the victims were sent to the Penang Hospital.
In the 4.40 a.m. collision, a number of mat rempit engaged in illegal street racing lost control and collided with one another and a vehicle close to the expressway's e-gate.
The horrifying accident's images and videos have subsequently gone viral on Facebook and Twitter.
Soffian Santong, the head of the North East district police force, has been informed of the occurrence.
However, the police have not yet made any public statements.
In the meantime, the victims' relatives asked people to refrain from posting negative comments online, stating that they simply enjoyed riding motorcycles.
Mother of the twin boys Syazwan Hakim and Syazwan Hafis, Mashitah Md Isa, 44, told Sinar Harian that people shouldn't speculate about the accident.
