JPJ has been mandated by the Department of Transportation to reduce the backlog of applicants for drivers’ licences.

In response to complaints from the public, recently Malaysia Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong paid a surprise visit to the Berjaya Driving Training Centre in Taman Perling, JB to assess a clear picture of the actual situation in the field.

According to his recent post on Facebook, the number of IM Berjaya students here were roughly equivalent to the total number of students for the entire period of 2018 through July 2022, which is for a period of 7 months.

‘’More students have registered this year than last 2018 by 42%’’ he added. In the State of Johor, there were 3,639 people waiting to take driving classes and only 1,518 certified driving instructors.

Giving the impression, those planning to take the driver's licence test must wait two to three months whilst similar issues are also happening in Klang Valley.

Therefore, to resolve this issue, JPJ will conduct field monitoring to listen to the views of stakeholders and the public to resolve the issue of candidate dumping or "backlog" immediately.
