Fancy converting your Toyota Hilux to look like a Toyota Tundra?

Though renowned for its high capabilities across terrains and its overall robustness as a truck, the venerable Toyota Hilux is far from pretty to say the least. This is especially true when it is compared next to its American-born bigger brother the Toyota Tundra.

Well, thanks to Japanese tuners GMG Double Eight, the firm has created a unique custom conversion kit that lets customers give their Hilux a facelift to look more like its said American-made sibling. The result is rather brilliant to say the least, and it does inject a dash of youth into an otherwise ageing truck.

Aptly, as you can see from the featured images, GMG Double Eight went to great lengths to give the Hilux a complete Tundra-esque front fascia. It includes a replication of the Tundra’s massive octagon grille and honeycomb insert pattern, black skid plate, GR-style Toyota lettering, plus three yellow marker lights.

Additionally, the conversion kit also adds vertically-positioned bumper intakes, which are connected with the Hilux’s stock headlights. There’s also a hood scoop mounted on the stock Hilux front bonnet, though this is merely a cosmetic exercise – it doesn’t provide additional cooling or ducting functions.

Apart from the Hilux Rogue-like wide wheel arches added, the rest of the Hilux’s exterior remains unchanged from stock. Said add-on wheel arches are also finished in body colour instead of contrasting black, which adds a little more aggression and ruggedness too.

Also fitted to the featured Hilux are a set of new deadlock alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber. The appearance of a slightly higher ride height also suggest the Tundra-converted Hilux featured possibly sports a lift kit too.

Apart from the extensive exterior changes, the base Hilux truck’s mechanicals remains stock – likely packing the Japan market-spec 2.8-litre 4-cyl turbo-diesel that offers 201 hp. It’s assumed that this Tundra conversion kit is compatible for most Toyota Hilux models – GR Sport variant included – sold globally.

As for price, GMG Double Eight has priced this Tundra conversion kit for the Toyota Hilux, which consists of the front bumper, grille assembly and insert, yellow market lights set, as well as the hood scoop, at ¥388,000 (approx. RM 12,201.34).

Are you digging the looks of this Tundra-converted Toyota Hilux by GMC Double 8? Does it look better than the Ford F-150 Raptor-inspired conversion kit for the rivalling Ford Ranger? Or do you reckon the new Hilux Rogue looks cool enough? Hit the comments below with your thoughts…
