Subaru Corporation announced its vehicles equipped with the latest generation EyeSight driver assist system has sold more than five million units in June and achieved 91% of Subaru's global sales this year after first being introduced back in May 2008.

With the EyeSight feature integrated, it has set a world record by using a redesigned stereo camera with a wider viewing angle, improved image recognition and processing software that provides enhanced driver assist functions in a wider range of settings.

Having driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control and pre-collision braking that detects not only cars but also pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists in the vehicle's path aligns with its goal of further improving vehicle safety.

Subaru Lab, an AI development base located in Tokyo's Shibuya neighbourhood runs a R&D facility to integrate AI judgement capabilities into EyeSight's stereo camera technology.

In Japan, the company also debuted the EyeSight X advanced driver assistance system that comes with extended functions comprising lane change assist, speed control before entering a curve and hands-off driving assist in traffic congestion thanks to the latest stereo camera combined with four radars on top of its HD map and vehicle locator.

Apart from that, the 2022 Subaru Outback was tested among seven other midsize cars and received the highest rating from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for side-impact tests along with being rated as the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award in 2022.

Kudos to the Japanese carmaker which has been continuously improving its safety technologies which only began with the development of vehicle-mounted stereo cameras in 1989 and after 14 years and one month the public saw its achievement highlighted this year.
