Tesla Recalls 1.1M Cars Over "Finger Pinching" Window Malfunction

A recall was issued by Tesla for nearly 1.1 million vehicles in the US. The recall was with regards to its vehicles windows possibility of pinching a person's fingers when being rolled up.

This announcement was made last Thursday by Tesla via a document from the American Safety Regulators whereby Tesla’s window reversal system would not react as required when it detects an obstruction.

According to the US National Highway Safety Administration, the window issue faced by Tesla is a clear violation of federal safety standards for power windows.

Tesla further informed that the recall would involve certain Model 3 sedans, Model Y SUV’s Model S sedans and Model X SUV manufactured from 2017 till 2022. This issue was only discovered last August.

All new vehicles in production would immediately receive a software update to rectify this issue. Owners of vehicles already sold would start receiving notifications beginning 15 November and all recall fixes would be performed via an Over-The-Air software update.

Tesla further acknowledged that it was unaware of any warranty, insurance claims or injury filed as a result of this recall subject.

Now the question here is, what about the Tesla cars manufactured in other regions? As we are all aware, Tesla’s are available in Malaysia through local grey-importers being brought in from the UK, Hong Kong and Japan.

Are all these models running a different software which is why Tesla did not acknowledge cars sold out of the US? And if they did and an OTA software update with regards to this recall needs to be performed, would the Tesla’s in Malaysia be able to receive it? Its best those with Tesla’s pay their dealer a visit to get some of this questions answered.
