GRAB Introducing "Quiet Ride" Feature To Curb Awkwardness

We Malaysians are surely friendly and chatty blokes, but there are times when we just want to be left alone for some peaceful “me time”. This is even more so when you are hailing a ride from a stranger. Well GRAB’s got you covered soon.

SAYS recently reported that GRAB would be introducing “Quiet Ride” selection for its users to select from. From what we understand, to opt for the “Quiet Ride” the user would just need to select the option via an automated chat which would then prompt the driver of the user's preference to keep chats to a minimum.

However, do take note, the “Quiet Ride” feature is basically to minimise conversation not to completely eliminate it and trail runs (beta test) have been ongoing since April this year. Similar tests are being done in other regions such as the Philippines and Vietnam. Acceptable conversation during your “Quiet Ride” would be kept to bare essential to users route preferences, air-conditioning settings, or even music preference.

This selection is expected to be rolled out in selected locations beginning 7th October. A screenshot of the GRAB training interface was recently shared by PeopleOfPerlis on Lowyat.NET. The screenshot appears to be simple driver training to educate the drivers of what to expect from this feature. The screenshot also explains the reason for this feature is to minimise the awkwardness and stress both passengers and drivers sometimes go through to hold a forced conversation just to be polite.

However, the final mass roll out date of this feature is still not announced as more data is required. What do you think of this feature? Personally we feel this will lean to further disconnect amongst people, even if this is just in the context of a journey (ride).
