Ken Block's Electrikhana, Purely A Visual Sensation, You Can Watch It In MUTE!
Ken Block’s The Hoonigans Gymkhana is back with a twist. This time around it's called the Electrikhana paying tribute to the future in electrified rides in collaboration with Audi. The wheel of choice is none other than the Audi S1 Hoonitron. However, no matter how visually exciting it was, it just did not cut it as all you hear throughout the video are tyre screeches and eerie familiar EV whine. How we miss the sounds of the past which tickles all your senses.
Now that we got the rant out of the way, the Electrikhana this time around was set at Las Vegas, Nevada featuring an yet another masterpiece by the rally-star with well executed drifts along the famous mock Eiffel Tower, multiple jumps including a spectacularly executed one from Circa Las Vegas parking deck. The video also features all the Audi Traditions collection of cars. The entire 9.35-seconds cinematic feature was shot over several days in the desert state.
Some of the Audi Tradition cars you would be able to see in this video are the Audi 90 IMSA GTO (1989), the Audi 200 Trans Am (1988), the Audi Sport quattro S1 Pikes Peak (1987), the Audi quattro Gruppe B A2 (1984) as well as the Audi R8 LMP and Audi R18 e-tron quattro from Le Mans. Not forgetting a cameo appearance of Tom Kristensen, the nine times endurance race winner at minute 6.28-second.
According to Oliver Hoffman, Member of the Board for Technical Development at AUDI AG, “With the S1 Hoonitron we broke entirely new ground at Audi. By developing a fully electric prototype for the unique requirements of our partner Ken Block was a big and exciting challenge to which the whole team rose with flying colours. It is great to see how ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ is presented in an all-new environment.”
The Audi S1 Hoonitron used by Ken Block is specially made for him featuring a 1400HP, 3000Nm two electric motors setup spinning all four wheels and a bespoke carbon fibre chassis that fully complies with the safety standards of the FIA, motorsport’s governing body. As for its body shell, it mimics the legendary Audi Sport Quattro S1 of yesteryears made famous competing in the unforgiving Pikes Peak hill-climb race. The entire development of the Audi S1 Hoonitron was done in close collaboration between Audi and Ken Block’s team to ensure no aspect is left to chance.
