- Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia returns in 2023
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia one-make championship will mark its post-pandemic return in 2023. First held in 2012, the series returns for its ninth season next year following a near three-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 outbreak.
A total of six rounds will be held across the region and, almost symbolically, the series’ post-pandemic return kicks off with a season-opening race held at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia – the same venue where it first debuted in 2012.
Besides Malaysia, the series sees its 2023 calendar feature other notable venues in the region. Included are the Shanghai Circuit in China, the Fuji International Speedway in Japan, as well as the Everland Speedway in South Korea. New to the calendar in 2023 too is The Bend Motorsports Park situated in Adelaide, Australia. It’s addition also marks the series’ first ever running Down Under.
The season then wraps up alongside its continental siblings at a yet to be announced venue for the Lamborghini Grand Finals. The exact date and location of the 2023 Grand Finals will be revealed during the 2022 edition that takes place in Portimão, Portugal next month.
Calendar aside, the championship’s return in Asia will also see competing teams and drivers adopt the new and upgraded Huracan Super Trofeo Evo2 one-make racer. Unveiled last year, the Evo2 machine succeeds the previous Super Trofeo Evo machine with a host of improvements all around.
Highlights of said improvements include the aerodynamics, a peppier 611 BHP output from its naturally-aspirated and free-revving 5.2-litre V10 mill, a new X-Trac 6-speed sequential race transmission, not forgetting improved and larger race brakes.
To date, 254 drivers across 30 nations have participated in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia championship since its inception a decade ago. A total of 96 races have been held on 18 circuits. The 2023 season is also expected to boast the largest ever Super Trofeo Asia grid.
