Automatic Train Control System Faulty, Kelana Jaya LRT’s Service Disruption
A fault in the Automatic Train Control (ATC) system has caused a disruption for the entire Kelana Jaya line LRT service schedule.
It resulted in trains having to be driven manually between KLCC and Ampang Park stations, and trains stopping longer on each platform.
The issue was first detected in the afternoon of 5 November, resolved in the early morning of 6 November, but the same problem was repeated on 7 November.
To accommodate stranded passengers, intermediate bus services were provided until 1 AM, while operations for Pasar Seni MRT and LRT stations were extended until 1 AM.
Ensuing the end of the operating hours and assisted by the OEM Thales Group in Canada, the engineers were able to identify the root cause and stabilize the ATC system.
As of 5.30 this morning, the train service has resumed its normal operations. Nevertheless, as a security measure, the system is still under monitoring to ensure continued stability.
That said, Prasarana is in the process of implementing a comprehensive solution to change the ATC system as a whole, which is expected to be finalized within a few months.
