- Major Gran Turismo 7 Update Hinted Via Twitter
Popular Playstation driving game title Gran Turismo is set to welcome a major update ahead of its 25th anniversary this month. This was confirmed as lead creator Kazunori Yamauchi took to Twitter to announce it, accompanying his Tweet with a teaser image of three new cars that’s coming in said update.
As to what exactly these three new vehicles coming are difficult to ascertain, but educated guesses point out to these being a late model Nissan Silvia S14 “Aero”, a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, and an F87 generation BMW M2 . However, don’t take our word on this just yet.
Through past updates (like this and this), developers Polyphony Studio has always added more content to the game to go along with the new cars, usually in the form of new challenges in the single-player mode, new background locations for the in-game ‘Scapes’ photo editor mode, as well as other features.
Up until now, developers have added only one new circuit – Polyphony has been slow towards adding new circuits thus far. As this update commemorates the game series’ landmark 25th anniversary, there’s a chance developers will look towards adding a larger piece of content too such as a new circuit.
This new update hinted by Yamauchi, which supposedly releases this week, also comes a little early – by about a month – considering that the Gran Turismo franchise’s actual anniversary falls on Dec 23. This is perhaps the developers' move at not wanting to compete with other new games and releases during said period, which I right around Christmas time – a peak window for video game releases and purchases.
Nevertheless, news of a new update for one of the car world’s most celebrated games is good news indeed, and we’ll know more once the update rolls out in full.
In related news, Italian supercar marque Ferrari is set to introduce a new Vision Gran Turismo concept car into Gran Turismo 7 as well. The celebrated Italian brand has dropped a teaser to which on YouTube, but it doesn’t reveal any solid details or information about the concept apart from its headlight arrangement.
Though details are scarce, we need not wait long to see this concept as Ferrari will fully reveal its latest digital vision made exclusively for the Gran Turismo 7 title later this week at the game’s GT World Series Nations Cup Final event on Nov 27.
Beyond the digital realm, the Gran Turismo franchise is also set for expansion onto the silver screen as a Gran Turismo-titled movie is currently being filmed.
Produced by Sony Pictures, the Gran Turismo movie is slated for release in August next year with a plot revolving around e-sport players making the switch to real racing a la Alive Drift – a movie to which the game title also plays a central role to.
