All-Electric Toyota Hilux Revo BEV Concept Teased in Thailand

As Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT) celebrates its landmark 60th anniversary this week, the fanfare surrounding the occasion is palpable to say the least. This is evident through the attendance of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) president Akio Toyoda himself for said occasion too.

If anything, this was perhaps a sign that TMT were going to pull off something special, and it did just that with its tease of an all-electric concept of the evergreen Toyota Hilux pick-up truck. Called the Toyota Hilux Revo BEV Concept, its debut in the pick-up truck capital of the world couldn’t be more fitting.

Apart from the on-stage launch photo and video screenshots we’ve featured here, other images, as well as actual details, of this electrified Hilux concept are scarce at present.

Based on the images though, we can see that the concept underpins the single-cab variant of the current Hilux. It also sports new headlights and wheels, as well as the typical electrification tweaks of having a closed-off grille plus the addition of a charge port on the front left fender.

Underneath, TMT have also stated that the chassis has been altered to accommodate the electric powertrain. However, details surrounding which weren’t disclosed, and no claims were made in terms of power outputs, battery type and size, or even its range and performance abilities.

Though Toyoda didn’t state when this concept will transition into production, the exec did confirm that some of its development work were done by TMT themselves in Thailand. This is unsurprisingly given the Kingdom’s affinity for pick-up trucks, and TMT’s sizeable market share in this segment too.

Interestingly though, whilst the Toyota Hilix Revo BEV Concept hints at possibly an all-electric future for the Hilux, Toyoda did counter this thought by saying that electrification isn’t the only way forward towards carbon neutrality.

“BEVs are not the only way to achieve the world’s carbon neutrality goals. Personally, I would rather pursue every option, not just one option such as emission-free synthetic fuels and hydrogen,” said Toyoda in his speech during TMT’s 60th anniversary soiree.

The exec added further by sharing his belief that  TMC needed to take a holistic approach towards carbon neutrality. According to Toyoda, this covers how the firm sources for materials,  manufactures its vehicles, what powertrains powering said vehicles, as well as how they are eventually disposed of.
