During an exclusive session with Buletin Bernama, Public Works Minister YB Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that there would be a total of 3.8 million vehicles on all the expressways nationwide during this upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday. As we reported earlier, just PLUS alone expects 2 million vehicles to hit the roads this weekend.

He further added that the Malaysia Highway Authority (LLM) has implemented initiatives to ensure smooth traffic flow and users safety is looked after. Some of them are such as the Op Selamat with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Op Bersepadu with the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

During the CNY period both LLM and all the highway concessionaires would be operating around the clock with additional manpower. Datuk Alexander also specifically touched on that LLM would ensure the toll collection system works well, as well as provide additional lanes to reduce congestion at the toll plaza.

Toll concessionaires would also make sure tow trucks would be strategically located at selected locations to provide aid if needed in an event of breakdowns or accidents. More importantly, all construction and maintenance work by all highway concessionaires which requires lane closures would be stopped from this Friday until next Wednesday.

Datuk Alexander also said, a total of 4,379 road accident fatalities were recorded from January to September last year. This was from a total of 402,626 accident cases which is an increase of 36 per cent or 147,094 accident cases as compared to 2021.
