- Chery Teams Up With CATL To Explore New Energy Technology
Chery Group recently inked a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited. (CATL), under which both parties would collaborate on a wide range of issues, including products, commerce, market promotion, and commercial information resources.
Aside from battery supply and technical cooperation on passenger vehicles, both parties intend to conduct joint exploration in the areas of mass transit, EIC technology integration of new energy, and battery-swapping for buses, logistics vehicles, heavy trucks, and electric ships, with the goal of boosting and leading the automotive industry's development.
CATL, the world's leading lithium-ion battery producer for EVs, focuses on the research, development, production, and sale of traction batteries and energy storage systems for new energy vehicles (NEV). Globally, the company has supplied traction batteries to several well-known automakers and has held the top rank for five years in a row.
Chery has been involved in new energy technology research and development (R&D) since 1999, including vehicle integration, core technology, and core components development capabilities specialising in EIC and lightweight technology. It is worth noting that Chery has submitted over 900 new energy patents and won over 600 patents to date, placing the company foremost among Chinese vehicle firms and third globally.
One such patent is Chery’s "457" technology development strategy which would include four vehicle powertrain platforms, five general subsystems, and seven fundamental technologies that cover the A-C sedan and B-D SUV segments, whether for pure electric, hybrid electric, extended-range electric, fuel-cell, or any other new energy technologies.
As the development of new energy has become a global movement, the automotive industry is in a critical transitional era between traditional and innovative stages. In view of this, Chery has taken the lead in entering this high-speed new energy world, ushering in a new era of development. Chery sold nearly 210,000 new energy vehicles in the first ten months of 2022 (+182% year on year), considerably above the total industry growth rate.
Chery will continue to explore the field of new energy technology and put the concept of green development into practise, as well as collaborate with its partners to promote the sustainable development of the new energy industry and the popularisation of electric vehicles, all with the goal of reaching carbon neutrality.
