Prasarana To Spend RM2.8b To Improve Train, Bus Services

A total of RM2.8 billion will be spent by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd to upgrade the train and bus systems, including new equipment and an increase in the number of trains and buses. The provision made by the finance and transport ministries, according to group president and CEO Azharuddin Mat Sah, places management of the entire public transportation system under Prasarana due to the high demand for its services, particularly among Klang Valley residents. On Bernama Radio's "Jendela Fikir: Membina Pengangkutan Public Bersama," he said, "If improvements are required, we will replace the equipment as soon as possible, and increase the number of trains which are not sufficient for the time being. The Covid-19 pandemic, according to Azharuddin, had an impact on the entire world's supply chain, including Prasarana. He said replacement equipment needed for trains on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line, which often had service disruptions, was also affected due to the order being sent late to the operator. "At the moment, the supply of spare parts and the service that needs to be improved are the problems we are having.

He explained, "Our order for replacement trains from the beginning of last year could not be delivered at the scheduled time in August 2022, but will only arrive in May. Azharuddin claimed that the Ampang Line was improved but not the Kelana Jaya Line, despite the fact that the 25-year-old LRT service should have been fully maintained in the previous three or four years.

"I acknowledge that the Kelana Jaya Line has had maintenance issues over the past three to four years, but I have received approval from the board of directors and the finance ministry to upgrade the route as soon as possible," he explained.
