- Proton Wira Is Most Stolen Vehicle’ For 11th Consecutive Year
According to the Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia, the Proton Wira, a longtime favourite in Malaysia, is also the car that thieves love the most, holding onto its title of "most stolen vehicle" for an unprecedented 11 years.
Its coordinator Mas Tina Abdul Hamid said the list was based on claims received by insurance companies.
In 2021, 131 Wiras were reported as stolen, with 75 Proton Iswara cases following closely behind.
The Perodua Myvi, frequently referred to as "the king of the road," came in sixth place.
She claimed that thieves frequently target older and more well-liked car models, and she believed the Myvi would soon become their favourite.
"The Myvi is a target due to its appearance and popularity among the general public. "The pattern is nearly similar" (to the Wira). As soon as production of the Myvi stops, they might become a target, she added, noting that the majority of local auto thefts involved domestic sales.
She claimed that the Covid-19 pandemic-related recent shortage of auto parts had made the issue worse.
