The topic of cross charging amongst the different charging point operators (CPO) with just any one app has always been a hot one amongst EV users in Malaysia and today this topic is moving towards fruition as Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari) enters into a 3-way partnership with EV Connection Sdn Bhd (EVC) and Yinson GreenTech (YGT) through its subsidiary, Green EV Charge Sdn Bhd.
With this tri-party partnership, EV users would now be able to cross-track and cross-access charging of their EV’s with any of the CPOs mobile apps - Gentari (via Setel), JomCharge and chargEV.
This 3-way partnership was announced today during the 2023 Automechanika Kuala Lumpur at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. With this partnership, EV users would have access to a combined total of over 550 charging points across the country. This number basically represents little over two thirds of all available charging points (CP) up and running in Malaysia.
This 550 charging points would comprise of 150 from Gentari, 300 from chargEV and 100 from JomCharge.
According to Shah Yang Razali, Gentari’s Chief Green Mobility Officer, “To accelerate EV adoption in Malaysia, it is essential to prioritise customer experience. Therefore, by June, users will have the added benefit of cross-access charging, giving them access to approximately 70% of all charging points in Malaysia.”
Ir Lee Yuen How, Managing Director of EV Connection added further “Our fingers are always on the pulse of consumers’ needs, and we are taking the initiative by coming together to make your life simpler. Via this tri-network partnership, we give greater range confidence to users when driving in Malaysia, as they can locate the entire charging network of the three service providers via Setel, JomCharge or chargEV.”
While Srinivas Tati, the Senior Vice President of Business Development for YGT, said, “YGT is always committed to working with like-minded partners who share our vision of providing a better user experience and accelerating the adoption of EVs. This collaboration is a first step in the infrastructure collaboration with key industry players that will lead to more opportunities and possibilities in the future.”
