One Theory Exam For Motorcycle And Car Licences Soon - Loke

According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, the theory examinations for those who obtain their motorcycle and car driving licences separately may be standardised soon. He said some motorists told him that they have to go for the theory examination for their motorcycle licence, and repeat the same process for their car driving licence. "This is in contrast to the past, when we could only take the theory exam once for both licences." “I think we can simplify this to lessen the people’s burden,” he said during a 988 FM radio interview on Monday.

He said the proposal was made when he was the Transport Minister in 2018.

According to the current rules,  anyone who cannot obtain a motorcycle license and a car license at the same time must pass two theory tests.  The exam has 50 multiple choice questions and a minimum score of 84% or 42 questions answered correctly. However, the exam has 70 multiple-choice questions for those who receive both licenses at the same time, with at least 59 questions answered correctly.  In addition, Loke said that he will soon make a statement regarding the extension of the validity  of the renewed driver's license.

He said that he was aware of public comment that the maximum validity term of a licence was currently five years and that he wanted the government to increase it to 10 years. “An announcement will be made soon,” he added. Meanwhile, commenting that Penang needs the Light Rail Transit (LRT) to reduce congestion, Loke said it will be a huge challenge as Penang is an island and many places have historical value that cannot be demolished or expanded.
