BMW's Digital Key Plus
BMW's Digital Key Plus feature is now available on a number of Android smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S23+ and S23 Ultra, as well as the Google Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro. The Digital Key Plus functions similarly to the previous Digital Key, in that it replaces the traditional key fob in daily use, but it now includes more convenient features. You no longer need to place your smartphones in specific locations to lock, unlock, and start the car, thanks to ultra-wideband technology (UWB).

UWB is a low-energy digital radio technology with a high bandwidth that allows for very precise localization while maintaining maximum security.

UWB precision can also eliminate the risk of relay attacks, in which the radio signal is jammed or intercepted. For the record, Digital Key Plus has been available for compatible Samsung and Google smartphones running Android 13.1 or later since early 2021, but it is now also available for Apple iPhones.

These include Samsung smartphones such as the Galaxy S23+, S23 Ultra, S22+, S22 Ultra, S21+, S21 Ultra, the Z Fold4, and the Note20 Ultra in markets where Samsung Wallet is supported. The Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro from Google are also supported. According to BMW, the next stage of development for Digital Key Plus will be to provide the full range of comfort access functions on Android devices.
