BYD’s New DiSus Suspension System Can Make Your EV Bounce Around!
Renowned Chinese EV maker BYD has unveiled its latest suspension system, dubbed as the DiSus Intelligent Body Control System. Fully built and developed in-house by BYD, the DiSus is the first full stack self-developed smart suspension system ever launched by a Chinese automaker.
“The BYD DiSus system is the first self-developed intelligent body control system launched by a Chinese automobile company, marking the breakthrough from zero to one. The BYD DiSus System will further secure the globally pioneering stance for BYD in the industry”, said Mr. Wang Chuanfu, BYD chairman and president.
Built and developed specially for new BYD EVs, the DiSus System is profiled in three branches. This includes the Intelligent Damping Body Control System (DiSus-C), the Intelligent Air Body Control System (DiSus-A), and the Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System (DiSus-P).
Stealing the whole limelight during this event, however, is the preview of the DiSus-X system, which combines all of the three DiSus branches to provide complex vertical, lateral, and longitudinal motion control. Equipped on the newly-launched BYD YangWang U9 super-EV, the DiSus-X demonstrates its ability to bounce off the ground, which solely utilises the kinetic power of the suspension itself.
Aside from transforming your EVs into low-riders, the DiSus-equipped U9 also demonstrates its capability to drive on three wheels. To achieve this, the DiSus-X system lifts up the part of the car that’s missing the wheel, which provides it with ample ground clearance to avoid scraping the brake disc and the car’s underbody along the ground.
Beyond the gimmick, this feature is actually useful especially in emergency situations where you experience a serious tyre or wheel malfunction. Instead of waiting to be towed, you can easily drive off your vehicle to a safer place in spite of missing a wheel.
The DiSus system is said to improve the vehicle’s agility and minimise the risk of body roll, while the active dampers system can protect the vehicle from underbody damages, especially when traversing through rough terrains.
Interestingly, this newly-developed system offers collaborative control in body dynamics, which later can set a foundation for future development of its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).
The DiSus-P will be equipped on BYD YangWang U8 luxury SUV, making it the first production EV model to carry this new hydraulic body control system. Meanwhile, the DiSus-A air body control system will debut on the BYD Denza N7 EV fastback crossover.
On the other hand, the DiSus-C damping body control system will be made available via on-the-air (OTA) software update for compatible BYD models with hardware availability.
