Free 'Rahmah' Toll For Aidilfitri To Cost Government RM93m - Ahmad Maslan
According to Deputy Finance Minister I Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, the government will bear approximately RM93 million to implement the free Rahmah toll initiative for four days beginning on Wednesday (April 19). He stated that the free Rahmah toll initiative, which is applicable on 33 highways and for all vehicle classes, was one of Madani's goals to reduce the cost of living for the people. The amount was a preliminary estimate calculated by the National Budget Office to be paid to the concessionaires involved, according to Ahmad.
"Think of it as duit raya...to give highway users the opportunity to return to their hometowns or visit family members in conjunction with Aidilfitri," he said Wednesday after presenting donations to 30 asnaf at the Malaysian Tax Academy in Kuala Lumpur.
For the record, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the good news during a press conference at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebrations.
The free toll initiative will cover 33 highways and all vehicle classes.
