Google To Add Built-In Dashcam Feature To Android Phones

Google Pixel devices are constantly getting new features like Magic Eraser, Magic Editor, and even artificial intelligence-generated movie backgrounds. These are just a few of the advantages that Pixels have. However, it appears that Google is working on a new safety feature that will allow you to use your current Pixel device or any Android phone as a dashcam.

9to5The updated Personal Safety app that was posted to the Google Play Store had the newly discovered capability, according to Google.  According to the report, Google may have inadvertently leaked a "dogfood" copy of Personal Safety, allowing it to test this upcoming feature.

It is unknown whether or not this is the case, but what is important is that the news organisation was able to remove the new dashcam option from the app and investigate its functionality.

Users can currently access the dashcam option through the Personal Safety app's "Be prepared" section. You can programme your smartphone to start recording automatically when it detects a Bluetooth device, or you can start recording manually. According to the source, phone functionality is unaffected while the dashcam is turned on, which is great because when using the camera to capture video on a regular basis, the recording usually ends when the app is closed. Furthermore, it appears that movies can be recorded in dashcam mode even when the screen is turned off.

While this all sounds great, you're probably wondering how much storage space these video recordings will require. You'll be relieved to learn that they use about "30MB per minute," with a maximum recording time of 24 hours. Users can choose to record only video or both video and audio. Google appears to offer the option of automatically erasing recordings after three days, even with an optimised file size. Because it should provide more than adequate coverage out in front while driving, the camera may currently only use the main camera sensor, which should be sufficient for most purposes.
