- PLUS 'SMARTLANE' Initiative At USJ-Seafield Stretch - 1 Jun To 31 Aug
PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) will conduct a public pilot of the 'SmartLane' initiative from 1 June to 31 August 2023, daily from 6.30am to 9.30am, with the exception of public holidays, to help smooth traffic flow on the USJ-Seafield stretch, particularly during morning rush hours on the North-South Expressway Central Link Expressway (ELITE).
“This public pilot is conducted in collaboration with the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA), the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Road Transport Department (RTD. Its aim is to optimise the utilisation of all lanes and increase lane capacity to reduce traffic congestion on critical highway stretches,” said Mohd Yusuf Abdul Aziz, PLUS Senior General Manager Operations.
According to Mohd Yusuf Abdul Aziz, PLUS Senior General Manager Operations, the public pilot of the 'SmartLane' implemented on the USJ to Seafield stretch of the ELITE highway between KM8.1 and KM6.1 (Northbound) aims to optimise lane utilisation and increase lane capacity to reduce traffic congestion on critical highway stretches.

The emergency lane will be opened as an additional lane during this exercise to boost the capacity of the current lanes and help smooth traffic during peak morning hours.
Mohd Yusuf went on to say that, according to PLUS research and records, the traffic convergence and the mild incline terrain lead to high traffic volume and sluggish movement on that particular stretch. He also stated that different preparations have been taken for this 'Smartlane' programme, including surveillance by police, RTD staff, and PLUSRonda teams, as well as placing traffic signage and providing additional tow trucks at the spot in case of crises.
“On average, approximately 75,000 vehicles ply the USJ-Seafield stretch on the ELITE highway every day. Out of that number, 58% use the stretch simultaneously during peak hours in the morning,” added Mohd Yusuf.
Highway users can identify the 'SmartLane' by looking for signage and traffic controllers at the area, or by visiting PLUS social media platforms on Facebook and Twitter PLUSTrafik.
