- Tesla Debuts New Giga Laboratory Concept
Tesla's physical locations (retail and service) have more than doubled to 1,000 worldwide in the last three years. It demonstrates that the automaker has maintained a heavy reliance on retail locations as part of its marketing strategy since announcing a shift to online sales and a return to physical retail in 2019.


Tesla's retail locations are especially important in highly competitive electric vehicle markets, such as China. The automaker is now experimenting with a new retail concept called 'Tesla Giga Laboratory' in China.
Tesla made the following announcement on its official Weibo account (in Chinese):
“The country’s first “Tesla GIGA Laboratory” made a stunning debut. Tesla’s “Most Beautiful Store in Chengdu” unveiled the mystery: An immersive experience of the magic of “building a car in 45 seconds”. Meet up with friends “Chat and take a break”.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been claiming for years that Tesla is primarily a manufacturing company. Tesla appears to be attempting to incorporate this in its new retail experience, which appears to be designed to showcase its manufacturing technology as well as its drivetrain technology and powertrain technology.
