Tesla To Announce Investment In India This Year - Gigafactory India?

Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed plans to visit India next year and expressed confidence that Tesla will create a presence there as soon as possible. Musk said this following a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a four-day state visit to the United States.


Musk further disclosed that the Prime Minister had also invited him to India, which he plans to accept potentially later this year. He praised Modi for his support and expressed optimism about future Tesla announcements in India. Musk also said Modi had previously visited a Tesla factory in California and had emphasised interest in Tesla’s presence in India as it desired for large investments in the country.

Musk praised his meeting with Modi and hinted that a significant investment in India is already in the pipeline. He commended Modi's leadership in supporting inclusive technology and building the country's digital infrastructure. Musk also noted India's potential for renewable energy generation via solar and wind power. He also plans to deploy Starlink, SpaceX's satellite internet service to India inorder to increase internet access in rural areas.


Musk also emphasised his enthusiasm for India's future, claiming that the country offers more promise than any other significant country in the world. Musk acknowledged Tesla's interest in the Indian market in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, and he intends to finalise a location for a Tesla factory in India by this year's end.

Tesla has already established production facilities and Gigafactories in a number of sites, including the Tesla factory in California, Gigafactory 1 in Nevada, Gigafactory 2 in New York, Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai, Gigafactory 4 in Berlin, and Gigafactory 5 in Austin, Texas. Prior to his meeting with Prime Minister Modi, Musk visited nickel-rich Indonesia, where there is speculation about a Tesla plant. Could Indonesia and India be Gigafactories 6 and 7?
