Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) will begin its sales and bidding for special registration numbers UN 1 to UN 9999. According to Prof Datuk Ts Dr Sharifudin Md Shaarani, Vice-Chancellor of USIM, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has approved the use of special vehicle registration numbers beginning with the initials "UN" followed by a unique number sequence.

He further added that all USIM members, alumni, and the general public will be able to obtain these special registration numbers through a bidding mechanism that will be in effect until June 25.

The minimum bid value would range from RM1,500 for normal numbers right up to RM800,000 for unique and VIP numbers. Dr Sharifudin also mentioned that the goal of this initiative is to generate revenue for USIM while decreasing its reliance on government grants. Proceeds from this special registration numbers sale and auction would be used to help students in terms of scholarships and mobility, as well as to further develop the university.

He made these remarks at a press conference held at the USIM Chancellor Building following the launch event of the special registration numbers, which was officiated by the Director of JPJ Negeri Sembilan, Hanif Yusabra Yusof. Also present were Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, Chairman of the USIM Board of Directors; Deputy Superintendent Mat Ghani Lateh from the Nilai Police Headquarters; and Ahmad Shukri Zulkifli, Chief Executive Officer of USIM Tijarah Holdings Sdn Bhd were also present.

The university expects to earn at least RM4 million from the "UN" unique registration numbers. All bids would have to be submitted through UNPLAT.COM.MY, USIM's specialised bidding site, however, at the time of publication, the bidding, which was supposed to commence yesterday, June 13, 2023, was still pending.

USIM has informed on its website that the auction has been postponed to an unspecified date and time that will be announced soon. Instead of the initial stated date of June 25, the bidding end date would be altered accordingly.
