- MPAJ Sets Up Centre for For Disused Vehicles Disposal
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has established a one-stop centre (OSC) to handle the disposal of unused vehicles, according to The Star.
Residents could surrender cars, motorcycles, and bicycles, according to MPAJ president Dr Ani Ahmad. Ani also stated that applications will be processed within 48 hours, after which MPAJ will collect the vehicle and there is no charge for the service. “local council would handle all of the paperwork in collaboration with the Road Transport Department and MyEG Sdn Bhd’, she added.
For the record, MPAJ was the first local government to launch such an initiative, which aimed to reduce complaints about abandoned vehicles.
She emphasized that the local council had difficulty dealing with the issue because it had to follow the law. "Before we can proceed with further action, MPAJ must issue a notice and give the owner a grace period to remove their vehicle."
"If the owner does not comply, we will need to obtain a court order to dispose of the vehicle, but this is a costly process."
"With our new initiative, we hope to get owners to cooperate voluntarily," she explained.
She added that surrendered vehicles would be sent to MPAJ depots.
