- Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory Produces New Models Every 40 Second
Tesla Model Y is now officially on sale in Malaysia priced from RM199,000 excluding options.
The Shanghai Gigafactory has always moved at a faster pace than any other major car factory in the world; the Chinese facilities were built in record time, and assembly lines began producing the first Tesla Model 3 units in December 2019.
Since then, the Giga-Shanghai factory has steadily increased its speed, to the point where it can now produce a brand new Model 3 or Model Y every 40 seconds, as per a new Twitter video.
Customers won't have to wait long now that Tesla's Model Y has already been launched in Malaysia, as the remarkable manufacturing speed even outperforms Ford, which stated in a press release in January 2023 that its Dearborn, Michigan, truck plant can roll out an F-150 every 49 seconds.
A glimpse of Giga Shanghai can be seen in the video posted on Shanghai's tourism account, which shows the coordinated operation of many robotic arms at a single station to increase productivity. The video also shows how double-stacked workshops can be used to organise production lines in a highly effective way.
According to one report, the plant has an annual capacity of more than one million vehicles, and Tesla has already sold nearly half a million made-in-China (MIC) EVs in H1 2023.
Additionally, the Shanghai factory offers practical amenities for its employees, such as 16 restaurants where food orders can be placed via the Teshenghuo app, which was created in-house by Tesla's IT department.
