The Manjung District has taken a prominent role in contributing 60% of the total traffic on the West Coast Expressway (WCE) Perak alignment. This substantial traffic share specifically pertains to the Perak section of the WCE, spanning from Hutan Melintang to Beruas. Building upon this notable achievement, the Manjung District Police (IPD) has entered into a collaborative effort with WCE to organise a spirited Merdeka Convoy and Jalur Gemilang campaign, marking the 66th anniversary of our nation's independence. This endeavour aims to not only celebrate independence but also nurture unity, safety, and progress within the community.

The heart of this initiative lies in a convoy consisting of 25 cars and motorcycles, embarking on a symbolic journey. This convoy serves as a powerful demonstration of IPD Manjung's unwavering commitment to celebrating Merdeka Day alongside the local community, reinforcing the bond of shared patriotism.

During this journey, the convoy makes a brief stop at the WCE Perak Regional Office, strategically located in Ayer Tawar. This is to offer a unique opportunity for participants to engage directly with WCE management and receive first hand updates regarding ongoing operations. Participants would also be brought up to speed on the latest developments in the construction of the WCE particularly Section 11, an integral part of the expressway, which has impressively reached 90% completion and is expected to be finalised by the year's end.

As the months progress, the Perak stretch of the WCE sees an average monthly traffic flow of 865,000 vehicles. These numbers are poised to surge by year-end, with the imminent completion of several crucial sections. Notably, Section 11, spanning from Beruas to Taiping Selatan. Furthermore, Sections 1 & 2 (Banting – SKVE – SAE/KESAS) and Section 6 (Kapar – Assam Jawa) are also making significant strides toward completion.

The highlight of the Merdeka Convoy takes place when honoured guests and participants come together at the WCE Changkat Chermin Toll Plaza to distribute Jalur Gemilang flags. This heartwarming gesture symbolises their deep love for the country and ignites the spirit of independence among highway users.

Overall, the organisation of the Merdeka Convoy is not just a celebration but also signifies the spirit of unity and close cooperation between IPD Manjung and WCE. The police consistently collaborate with WCE to ensure the safety of road users. This partnership is not a new endeavour, as they have previously executed numerous programs, including Ops Selamat during festive seasons and operations aimed at curbing illegal racing, all with the ultimate goal of ensuring the safety and well-being of highway users.
