- DC Handal Bamboo Hill Get A BMW Takeover Ahead Of Its Launch!
Just last week CariCarz.com managed to publish full details on DC Handal’s flagship EV charging facility at Bamboo Hills. We also managed to uncover through PlugShare that DC Handal has six (6) other locations planned - Wisma MCA (KL), UOA Business Park (Glenmarie), The Vertical Bangsar South (Basement and also in-front of Lazada HQ), Choo Plaza (Penang) and Udini Square (Penang).
Based on our enquiries, we found out that with the exception of Udini Square, all others are expected to go live this month (September 2023). However, just a week later, there seems to be a twist in this plot.
The original Orange & Grey color scheme is now switched to Blue & Grey
As you can clearly see from these pictures, the entire DC Handal Bamboo Hills charging facility seems to have been recolored to the familiar BMW blue and grey. Upon further digging, we also managed to find out that most of the DC Handal facilities mentioned would take on a similar colorway and livery, indicating a joint collaboration between these two brands. This also differs from BMW’s other charging facility, which looks more like a venue take-over.

Aside from the colour and livery, everything else remains the same as reported. The charging rates are RM1.50/kWh and users can make payment either with their debit or credit card, or the JomCharge App, or the chargEV App. The charging units employed at this location are from Kempower, dispensing 200kW via 4 satellite CCS2 ports.
Simple to Operate: 1. Tap; 2. Pick A Bay; 3. Enter Contact Details; 4. Tap/Swipe Payment Card
Joint collaborations as such is what this industry basically needs. We have brought this matter up before when we questioned Tesla’s entry under the MITI’s BEV Global Leaders Initiative with one of the core promises being the establishment of 50 supercharger (DC) stations by 2025. This is also part of the 10,000 EV charger deadline.
So with this DC Handal BMW, or even other CPO collaboration in play, would this suggest that BMW is capable of establishing a network of 50 similar DC Charger or more by 2025? Would they too qualify for special tax exemptions as Tesla received? Would this also mean lower vehicle prices to the general Malaysians?
