- Govt Urged To Update Guidelines On Cargo Weight Limits

The government has been urged to update the regulations for commercial vehicles' cargo weight limits by the Malaysian Tipper Lorry Operator's Association, NST reported. The current regulations, according to its president Michael Loo, were last updated in 2018 and are out of date.
Loo claimed that the regulations did not reflect recent advancements in automotive technology. He added that compared to the current weight restriction of between 24 and 30 tonnes, lorries are currently capable of safely transporting loads between 30 and 45 tonnes.

The department had gathered information about the issue and held engagement sessions with them in 2020, according to Loo, but no decision had been made.
“The JPJ acknowledged the data and agreed with the association’s suggestion for an additional 20% allowance above the permitted weight limit but it required the approval from the transport ministry.
“We hope the ministry, especially minister Loke Siew Fook will look into the issue and give it the appropriate attention,” he said.
