CATL's Shenxing Ultra-Fast Charging Battery Battery Will First Be Used In Chery Models

CATL's Shenxing Battery will first be used in Chery models, according to the Chinese power battery giant. Shenxing Battery will be used in Chery's premium Exeed-branded models, extending the two companies' strategic partnership, according to CATL.

According to CATL, the Shenxing Battery will be mass-produced by the end of 2023, with models equipped with the battery going on sale in the first quarter of next year. According to a CATL press release, Chery and CATL also intend to offer Shenxing Battery-equipped models in the European, Middle East, ASEAN, and North American markets. CATL unveiled the Shenxing Battery, a battery based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry that supports ultra-fast charging, on August 16. CATL said in an August release that the battery can provide a 400-kilometer range on a 10-minute charge and is the world's first LFP battery to support 4C charging.

C stands for the battery's charging multiplier, and 4C means that the battery can theoretically be fully charged in a quarter of an hour. The Shenxing Battery, which is supported by CATL's own developments, including an ultra-high conductivity electrolyte formulation, allows an EV to achieve a range of up to 700 kilometres, according to the company.

On August 16, Avatr Technology, backed by Changan Automobile, CATL, and Huawei, announced that it will use Shenxing Battery, making it the first EV brand to do so. Neta Auto announced a new agreement with CATL to use Shenxing Battery last week, becoming the second automaker to do so.

According to data released on October 11 by South Korean market researcher SNE Research, CATL is the world's largest power battery manufacturer, with a 36.9 percent share of 158.3 GWh loaded in January-August.
