- Chery Kaiyi Shiyue, A Scaled Down Budget smart #1?
Kaiyi has officially revealed the name of its upcoming pure electric two-door mini EV, previously known by its codename i-EA 01. The car will be called "Shiyue" and is set to be launched later this month. At a glance, the Shiyue has uncanny resemblance to the smart #1 on a miniature scale.
Kaiyi, originally known as Cowin, was once a brand owned by Chery. As of 2018, Chery still owned 47.82% of the shares, while Sichuan Yibin Push Group and Yibin Automobile Industry Development Investment currently jointly own 1.33% and 50.85% of Kaiyi. According to the most recent data accessible, Chery currently owns only 18% of the shares in Kaiyi.
The name "Shiyue" was selected through a naming contest for the car and is meant to symbolise persistence in life, simplicity, love for life, harvest, and gratitude.
According to data from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Kaiyi Shiyue is 3360mm in length, 1700 width, 1605mm height and a 2160mm wheelbase.
Inside, the car offers a 2+2 4-seat layout with a pink and blue colour theme. The interior is minimalistic, featuring a suspended instrument panel, a 10.25-inch central control screen, a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, and hidden air conditioning outlets. It also supports keyless entry and start.
The powertrain options include two electric motor options with maximum powers of 47 BHP or 54 BHP and capable of 100 km/h top speed. Kaiyi Shiyue offers two lithium iron phosphate battery pack choices, providing electric ranges of 155 km, 210 km, or 301 km on the CLTC test cycle. As of August 2023, Kaiyi had sold a total of 34,468 units of the Shiyue.
