- Genting Highlands Toll - Stop Work Order!
A stop-work order has been issued by the Bentong Municipal Council (MPB) for the building of a toll gantry for travellers going to the well-known hilltop resort, Genting Highlands, in Bentong, close to Gohtong Jaya.
The stop-work order was officially issued on Wednesday, a source within MPB claims, as a result of the developer's refusal to submit any construction plans or obtain consent from regional authorities before starting work on the site. No such evidence was provided to MPB, though, and no approval was given to construct the gantry.
The source went on to say that while MPB had been informed of the gantry's intended use in the construction of toll booths, the council did not have the authority to approve the collection of toll fees.
Additionally, the operator has not yet submitted a proposal for the implementation of a one-way trip toll levy for tourists travelling to Genting Highlands. A state official said, "If such a plan exists, it should be brought to the attention of the Pahang government, including the state government's investment and privatisation department, before it can be discussed in the state executive council (exco) meeting.
It has been discovered that, despite the proposed toll's location on private property, consultation with the Finance Ministry and the Transport Ministry are required before any tolls can be collected.
