Minister of Transport Anthony Loke recently announced that he had directed JPJ to devise additional incentives to encourage EV adoption in Malaysia. One suggestion was to issue special plates for electric vehicles.
This would help distinguish EVs from petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicles on the road and could be an attractive feature for many buyers.
All electric vehicles (EVs) across the country will be issued special number plates beginning with 'EV' followed by the registered number and so forth (e.g., EV1, EV2). He stated that the issuance of such plates, including e-Plates (with RFID built in) is not just for show. Kia-EV5-Concept-4-600x435.jpg
Loke explained that EVs must be clearly identified in order for the Fire and Rescue Services Department to identify the vehicle in the event of an accident. He believes this is critical because the fire department cannot simply spray water on EV-related fires. Typically, EV fires necessitate special procedures and equipment.

To that end, JPJ has issued a request for proposal (RFP) in its most recent Facebook post for the implementation of a special number plate design for Electric Vehicles,  adding that any companies with sufficient experience in finance, development, and operation of special number plates are welcome to submit a proposal that meets JPJ's criteria.
Attendance at the special briefing session is compulsory, and the company is responsible for all document preparation and submission costs. The submission deadline is November 14, at 10 a.m. on that Tuesday. Enquiries can be directed to Kumar at 03-88928949 or kumar.aanandan@jpj.gov.my.
