- CATL’s CIIC Skateboard Chassis Almost Ready - 300KM Range In 5 Mins!
A video footage, which was picked from CarNewsChina showcases the CATL-developed skateboard platform, the CATL Integrated Intelligent Chassis (CIIC), driving without a body has surfaced online.
The platform, featuring only a steering wheel and a driver seat, demonstrates not only straight-line driving but also effective turns. This innovative chassis integrates all essential components required for a car to operate such as the high-voltage and low-voltage systems, steering and braking systems, and chassis domain controllers, utilising CTC (cell-to-chassis) technology.
This platform which is being eyed by various brands would revolutionise the electrified automotive industry. CATL has previously entered into a number of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with various brands such as Huawei and Vinfast to explore future collaboration potentials.
The CIIC skateboard platform when mated to a B-segment sedan demonstrated impressive energy efficiency with a energy consumption level of 10.5 kWh/100km, providing a range of 1,000 km. Moreover, the battery pack had an efficiency of 75%, capable of adding 300 KM of charge in just five minutes.
According to InsideEV, CATL CIIC achieved remarkable efficiency, with 10.5 kWh/100 KM, surpassing the Tesla Model 3 Long Range. Furthermore, by integrating its batteries, e-motors, and crucial components it would result in a significantly reduced production costs, vehicle weight, and energy consumption while maximising passenger space.
However, the major concern that is to be dealt with here would be with regards to the drawback of the all-in-one platform which would be the repair cost should a vehicle get into an accident. With such integrated platforms, even a minor accident would result in a major cost involvement as all drive components are sealed away and not easily accessible.
