Diesel shortage in Sarawak: Petronas Yet To Clarify Reason

web_CariCarz_Petronas-Diesel_-1.jpg Sarawak has been experiencing a diesel shortage for the past two weeks, and one of the causes of the shortage is due to each state's quota of subsidized fuel, according to state Democratic Action Party chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
He said that the quota was being misused by irresponsible parties for industrial purposes, leading to an imbalance in supply and demand.
“Although the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) determines the diesel quota for each state, it is important that the Sarawak government ensure that the allocated quota meets the region’s demand,” he added. web_CariCarz_Petronas-Diesel_-2.jpg

However, The Sarawak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has yet to receive any information from Petronas regarding the supply disruption affecting nearly all of its petrol stations in Sarawak as well as Sabah.

In a statement released yesterday, KPDN stated that it is requesting an official response on the subject from Petronas Dagangan Berhad.

“Members of the public with information regarding diesel fuel irregularities are encouraged to provide comprehensive details for the necessary action to be taken, and consumers are advised to secure their diesel supply from Shell or Petronas petrol stations,” the statement reads. web_CariCarz_Petronas-Diesel_-3.jpg

In the meantime, Petronas Dagangan stated in a statement that while it was actively collaborating with the appropriate authorities and stakeholders to minimize the disruption, the issue is anticipated to last until December 31.

Through its Enforcement Division, KPDN Sarawak is actively engaged in ongoing monitoring and inspection of all gas stations.

It said for complaints or enquiries, the public can make reports via e-aduan.kpdn.gov.my, WhatsApp (019-2794317 or 019-8488000) or call their hotline at 1-800-886-800. thumb_Petronas-Diesel.jpg
