According to Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, the government will likely announce the toll fee exemption in conjunction with the Christmas celebration on Friday, December 22, through the Finance and Works ministries.
“I was told there might be an announcement on Friday. Let’s wait,” he told NST after visiting the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) here yesterday
According to Bernama, Ahmad stated that the government allocates an average of RM21 million per day to highway concessionaires through the implementation of free tolls.

The government spent RM80.07 million in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, RM42.31 million for Deepavali, and RM41.21 million for the Chinese New Year to implement the toll-free initiative this year, he added.

In another development, Ahmad stated that the government plans to add 100 EV charging points on tolled highways, particularly the North-South Expressway (PLUS), by 2025 to accommodate the growing number of electric vehicles (EV).

Currently, 60 EV charging points are located at rest and service (R&R) areas and petrol stations along the PLUS Highway and East Coast Expressway (LPT), including the Ayer Keroh R&R (northbound), Seremban R&R (northbound), and Paka R&R (northbound), which are managed by charging point operators such as TNB Electron and Gentari.
