- New Range Rover Electric Teased, Promises V8 Performance
Jaguar land Rover (JLR) is set to electrify the Range Rover flagship luxury SUV, and the firm has released the first few teaser images plus the teaser video above for which. A waiting list has opened fort the model, and JLR promises it will be “the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created.”
Ahead of releasing these teasers, Land Rover had already begun the new model’s development virtually, which later spawned physical prototypes that were spotted undergoing tests in the ice-cold conditions of Sweden and the sweltering desert heat of Dubai.
Through which, the marque is performing rigorous tests and evaluations to ascertain the robustness of the new electric drive system, its battery, and chassis integrity. At the same time, vehicle dynamics tests for thermal derating are also being conducted.
"Timeless, reductionist design, a serene cabin and go-anywhere capability" remains the core ingredients of the Range Rover electric's recipe, according to JLR.
JLR promises the new electric Range Rover will deliver comparable performance as the current flagship V8-powered model. The firm adds that the electric Range Rover will sport towing, water-wading, and all-terrain driving abilities that “surpass ay other luxury electric SUV” as well.
Much of this stems form the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) platform the electric Range Rover underpins, which is designed and built in the UK alongside current hybrid and combustion Range Rover models.
Based on JLR's MLA platform, the new Range Rover electric will feature an 800-volt architecture that readily accepts rapid charging inputs.
Rated at 800-volts, the architecture will employ batteries and electric drive units built by JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Center, and be able to accept rapid-charging inputs. Beyond which, JLR also confirmed a water-wading ability of up to 850 MM, and the inclusion of over-the-air software updates.
“The magic ingredients that underpin the success of Range Rover remain unchanged: timeless, reductionist design, a serene cabin and go-anywhere capability – but now offered with zero tailpipe emissions,” adds JLR.
