It would seem, the state of Perlis has finally got a DC fast charging (DCFC) station located  at Starbucks Kangar Jaya thanks to the collaborative effort between the global coffee giant and Yinson Group-owned ChargEV.

Said joint collaboration kicked off in Oct 2022 with the launch of their first Starbucks charging station at Eco Grandeur in the township of Puncak Alam, Selangor.

Since then, up to 31 Starbucks location has been equipped with ChargEV charging stations, with more in the pipelines too. This also aligns with the coffee chain’s commitment to be more resource-positive in reducing its global carbon footprint by 50% by 2030. Starbucks plans to achieve this by having an EV charging station at drive-thru Starbucks outlets ideally within a 150 KM distance in between each other.

Currently the closest DCFC facility to the state of Perlis is located in Alor Setar, Kedah, which is approximately 50 KM away. The closest Starbucks with a DCFC facility is Starbucks Amanjaya at Sungai Petani, Kedah, which is about 112 KM away.

Starbucks Kangar Jaya, located along the Jalan Kangar-Alor Setar route, now houses a dual-gun 60 kW DC charging unit with two (2) EV charging bays (EVCB). The charging rate at this facility is fixed similar as other ChargEV chargers - per/kWh rate of RM1.20.

According to the ChargEV app, this new DCFC is capable of outputting a maximum of 60 kW per charging nozzle if only one EV is charging. Said output is halved if both nozzles are in use. The charging speed would also depend on your vehicle's DC input capability.

Although the ChargEV app indicates a "Coming Soon" status, according to our sources, the chargers are already functional
