PLUS Inks MOU With Gentari - Explore and Develop EV Solution and Ecosystem

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS), a subsidiary of UEM Group Berhad, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gentari, with a primary focus on renewables and energy efficiency, in line with the Malaysian government's proactive stance on advancing the country's energy transition, green industry, and sustainability goals.

Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar, Managing Director of PLUS, and Sushil Purohit, CEO of Gentari signed the agreement on the sidelines of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) at the Malaysia Pavilion in Expo City, Dubai. The event was witnessed by YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, Datuk Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, and Datuk Amran Hafiz Affifudin, Chairman of UEM Group.

Dato' Mohd Izani Ghani, Managing Director of UEM Group, expressed UEM Group and PLUS's commitment to driving the development of the green industry. He emphasised the broader goal of fostering a more sustainable and responsible business environment in Malaysia and around the world through collaboration with strategic industry players.

PLUS and Gentari will collaborate on a variety of initiatives under the terms of the MoU, including the exploration and development of Electric Vehicle (EV) solutions and ecosystems in Malaysia.

This includes the installation of Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFC) infrastructure along PLUS-operated highways, the development of electric forecourts with mobility retail and F&B offerings, the implementation of low carbon and mobility hydrogen solutions, and the implementation of renewable energy with solar energy solutions, specifically solar battery storage solutions similar to the Behrang Lay-by (Northbound), Electric Vehicles (EV) Fast Charging Modular and Portable Station with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Datuk Nik Airina, emphasised the importance of PLUS in shaping and contributing to Malaysia's sustainable development. PLUS currently operates Malaysia's largest highway network, spanning over 1,130 kilometres.

PLUS, according to her, is also working with the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and the Ministry of Works (MoW) to create an EV Charging Infrastructure Roadmap, with the goal of installing 100 DCFC EV charge points along highways by 2025.

PLUS and Gentari's collaboration is seen as a joint commitment to accelerate EV adoption in Malaysia and facilitate the country's transition to carbon-neutrality by 2050.
