- Dongfeng eπ 007 Debuts in China as Yet Another Sleek EV Sedan
The all-new Dongfeng eπ 007 joins the long list of sleek EV saloons to make its landfall in China
EV saloons are currently on the rise in China as the Great Wall Nation welcomes yet another contender into its foray. Known as the Dongfeng eπ (e-Pi) 007, this sleek EV is developed by renowned Chinese marque Dongfeng, featuring a sporty four-door fastback saloon body style.
According to Dongfeng, the sleek silhouette of the eπ 007 EV serves more than the aesthetic purpose, as it garners the EV saloon with a low drag coefficient rate of only 0.209 Cd. Besides that, the eπ 007 resembles many other Chinese EVs nowadays, featuring a front face with slim LED DRLs and a lower-positioned main headlight unit, full-width LED taillights, as well as flushed door handles.
Besides the standard doors, the eπ 007 gets Lambo-style scissor doors as an option
Speaking of doors, customers can also opt for the Lambo-style scissor doors for their eπ EV, which are offered as part of the special optional package priced at CNY 22,000 (RM14,449). Dimension-wise, the eπ 007 measures 4,880 MM long, 1,895 MM wide, 1,460 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 2,915 MM – putting it on par with other Chinese EV sedans like the new Zeekr 007 and the Xiaomi SU7.
On board, the eπ 007 gets a pretty elaborate cabin equipment list, with all of them laid out in a typical EV manner. Creature comforts like the 15.6-inch central infotainment display, the 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 64-colour ambient lighting system, 8-point massage front seats, and a premium sound system are all present here. Aside from the standard keyless entry, customers can also unlock their eπ 007 EVs by using the novel facial recognition system.
The eπ 007 comes in both BEV and REEV variants
In terms of powertrain, the eπ 007 is available in both standard battery EV (BEV) and range-extender EV (REEV) variants. Starting with the former, the baseline eπ 007 53 Pro BEV gets a 56.83-kWh battery pack that juices the car for a maximum EV range of 530 KM (CLTC). Powered by a rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor rated at 215 HP (160 kW) and 310 NM, this base-spec model boasts a century sprint time of 6.8 seconds.
Moving on to the mid-specced 620 Pro BEV variant, it gets a larger 70.26-kWh battery pack that is good for 620 KM of max CLTC range, while a peppier RWD motor setup rated at 268 HP (200 kW) and 320 NM allows it to blast from nought to 100 KM/H in a faster 5.8 seconds.
Sitting on top of the eπ 007’s BEV range is the 540 Max, which gets the same battery as the 620 Pro model. Featuring a dual-motor AWD setup rated at 536 HP (400 kW) and 640 NM, this top-spec vehicle can blast from nought to 100 KM/H in just 3.9 seconds. Due to its peppier motor setup, the 540 Max model gets a slightly lower CLTC range of 540 KM, despite using the same battery as the 620 Pro model.
As for the lone REEV variant, this model adds a 1.5-litre petrol mill that acts as a generator to its small 28.39-kWh battery pack. Powered by the same RWD motor setup as the baseline 53 Pro BEV variant, the 200 Pro REEV gets 200 KM of EV-only range, while the whole system grants the sedan an astounding 1,200 KM of maximum travel range.
Tagged from CNY 159,000, the eπ 007 is one of the most affordable EV saloons in the Chinese market today
Despite its sleek design and well-equipped cabin, the all-new Dongfeng eπ 007 is tagged at a relatively affordable price of CNY 159,000 (RM104,457) for the baseline BEV spec. This makes the eπ 007 cheaper than its competitors, with the newly-launched Zeekr 007 priced beyond the CNY 200,000 mark.
Similar to other Chinese EV sedans, however, the eπ 007 is strictly a Chinese domestic market (CDM) product for now, as Dongfeng has yet to mention any plans to export this sleek EV sedan to other international markets.
