Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that the recent incident involving the collapse of a construction crane onto the railway tracks between Rawang and Kuang has been attributed to the project contractor's negligence.

The incident, which occurred on 12 Dec, 2023, was caused by the contractors' carelessness in entering restricted areas near the tracks. It resulted in significant loss of over RM2.4 million for Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).

Loke emphasised the gravity of the situation, stating that the financial impact included bus transportation costs and cargo service losses. Fortunately, no trains were passing through the affected area at the time, thus preventing a potentially bigger disaster.

Due to the crane collapse, KTMB had previously announced disruptions to both KTM Komuter Lembah Klang and Electric Train Services (ETS) along the Rawang-Tanjung Malim route. According to KTMB, both tracks for the affected services were obstructed.

Loke informed the media that the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) is finalising an investigation report in accordance with Section 128(1)(a) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715) in order to appropriately address the incident. Furthermore, the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) is investigating possible legal action against the contractor.

Loke also issued a stern warning to all contractors, urging them not to dismiss safety concerns because they directly impact human lives. Instead, he urges them prioritise safety, particularly in railway track areas.
