Klang Valley commuters will be treated to complimentary rides on the KTM Komuter trains on Jan 24 to 25 in light of the upcoming Thaipusam festive holiday. This was announced and confirmed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook recently.

The initiative, facilitated through KTM Bhd (KTMB), will commence at midnight (12:00AM) on Jan 24 and continue until 11.59 PM the following day. Despite the free rides, Loke emphasised that passengers are still required to scan their cards at the automated control gates during the specified period.

Additionally, the KTM Komuter operating hours will be extended around the clock for four days, from Jan 23 to 26. It will also see extra trains running on the Butterworth-KL Sentral and Padang Besar-KL Sentral routes.

During this period, 33 additional rail services will operate beyond the normal KTM Komuter hours for the Batu Caves-Pulau Sebang-Batu Caves route, along with 39 extra services for Batu Caves-Port Klang-Batu Caves.

A total of 28 stations, including the newly added Rembau and Pulau Sebang stops, will be operating 24/7, resulting in 72 KTM Komuter trains running daily.

Loke highlighted that the additional KTM Komuter train services would commence at 9.55 PM on January 23 from Pulau Sebang to Batu Caves, with a one-hour frequency. Similarly, trains from Pelabuhan Klang to Batu Caves will begin at 11.39 PM, offering hourly services.

To further facilitate travel, free Rapid feeder bus services will be provided in Kuala Lumpur and Penang during the Thaipusam celebration. With an estimated 250,000 passengers expected to utilise this service, KTMB plans to deploy additional staff, especially at the Batu Caves station, a focal point for Thaipusam worshipers and tourists alike, to ensure a seamless flow of operations.
