The Lotus Emeya EV has finally concluded its testing and development program.

After spending three years driving across 15 countries and two continents, the Lotus Emeya EV has finally concluded its testing and development program. Throughout its globe-trotting mission, the Emeya EV has faced several extreme weather conditions with varying degrees of temperature, all in the pursuit of perfecting this hyper-EV GT.

Among the extremes the Emeya faced was during its testing at the Arctic Circle in Ivalo, Finland, where it faced extreme temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius, plus a gruelling snowy condition that really tested the car’s manoeuvrability.

Besides fine-tuning the suspensions and brakes, the results from this testing also allows Lotus to develop a bespoke winter tyre for the Emeya EV

These conditions have helped Lotus engineers fine-tune the Emeya’s suspensions and brakes, along with the development of a bespoke winter tyre in collaboration with Pirelli. Besides the mechanical tweaks, the results from these extreme weather testings have also helped Lotus improve both the car’s traction and stability control systems, as well as the driver assistance functions.

As a result, Lotus claims that some of the ADAS features present on the Emeya can now be engaged, even when the roads and signs are obscured under extreme weather conditions like heavy snows.

Apart from the Arctic Circle, Emeya's globe-trotting adventure also saw this EV saloon crossing several other road conditions, including the bumpy B-roads of the UK, the straight stretches of the German Autobahn, and even mountain passes in Mongolia. Besides that, the Emeya has also been tested on several world-renowned proving grounds, like the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife and the Nardo high-speed testing track.

“The testing process at Lotus is rigorous and covers a comprehensive performance assessment of everything from suspension and steering through to battery and tyres,” said the Lotus Emeya vehicle line director, Sylvian Verstaeten.

“Emeya is the ultimate all-electric grand tourer, designed and engineered to deliver the optimum driving experience for our customers 365 days a year and in all conditions. We’re incredibly excited for customers to be able to experience Emeya for themselves.”

Following the success of this three-year testing program, Lotus will conduct a series of additional tests for the Emeya in selected locations like the Middle East, the US, and Australia, prior to the commencement of order deliveries in these markets.

A little refresher on the Emeya’s specs, this hyper-EV GT boasts a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup that can produce up to 905 HP and 985 NM, allowing a century sprint finish of only 2.78 seconds and a limited V-max of 265 KM/H. Underpinning the same Electric Premium Architecture as the Eletre, the Emeya carries a 102-kWh battery pack with an 800-volt architecture that enables DC fast charging at up to 350 kW.

Closer to home, Lotus Cars Malaysia has already launched the Eletre SUV into our market last year, with many hoping the firm will follow this up with the Emeya EV GT any time soon.
