- Tan Chong Group Opens 1 Million MWh Large-Scale Floating Solar Plant
TC Sunergy Sdn. Bhd. (TCS), a subsidiary of Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad (TCMH), has began operating a Floating Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic (LSSPV) plant. Said facility is situated in the Serendah district, Selangor.
This achievement stems from Tan Chong Motor’s involvement in the 20-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) project initiated by the Energy Commission (ST) during the LSSPV Bidding Cycle 4 in 2020. It also marks the Group's initial foray into the renewable energy (RE) sector.
The plant, which is located on the Sungai Rawang – Serendah Lake, is anticipated to deliver 1,043,114 MWh of clean energy to Tenaga National Berhad over a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This endeavour is projected to mitigate 610,221 tonnes of CO2 emissions, a feat equivalent to removing 132,656 cars from the roads, or planting 29,058,175 trees.
To preserve the lake's ecosystem and its surroundings, the floating solar plant utilises only 60% of the water surface/ This ensures the conservation of existing biodiversity and water quality whilst also adhering to the Environmental Management Plans provided by Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and the Department of Environment (DOE).
TCS will oversee the operations and maintenance of the plant in accordance with the conditions outlined in the Energy Commission's Public Generation License.
According to Daniel Ho, Group CEO of TCMH, “TCS Floating LSSPV – Serendah is an important milestone signifying the Group’s first venture into the renewable and sustainable energy sector. TCMH Group is pleased to be able to play our part in conserving the environment for our future generations.”
