- Tesla Has Just Produced Its Six Millionth EV
Tesla has produced its six millionth vehicle this week, just six months after reaching the five million mark.
Tesla has reached yet another milestone in its production history this week, as the American automaker has just produced its six millionth vehicle. This is such an incredible feat for a relatively new automaker, with Tesla’s first production starting all the way back in 2008 with the original Roadster.
Adding some context to Tesla’s latest achievement here, six million cars is a huge number for any automaker to achieve, let alone a relatively new one like Tesla. For reference, Tesla’s fierce Chinese rival BYD has just surpassed the six million mark for its new energy vehicle (NEV) production, and that figure includes hybrids too, not pure battery EVs (BEVs) alone.
To make things more impressive, this astounding feat was achieved only six months after Tesla broke the five million mark for its total production, with the automaker now looking forward to ramping up its production even further.
The Tesla Model Y is by far the marque's most popular model, with over one million units sold last year.
To no one’s surprise, Tesla’s six-millionth vehicle turns out to be the Model Y, which is not only Tesla’s best-seller but also the most popular car on the planet. Last year alone, Tesla managed to ship out a total of 1.23 million Model Ys globally, with the midsize EV crossover managing to edge household names like the Toyota Corolla in the process.
While this is altogether big news for Tesla, it appears that the production volume for the EV maker has been pretty consistent throughout the past few years. Last year, Tesla managed to break the four-million mark in March, followed by the production of its five-millionth car later in September. Should this projection continue, we can expect Tesla to churn out its seven-millionth EV later in September.
