Tesla In Discussions For Manufacturing Plant In Thailand - Report

tesla-gigafactory-4-europe.jpg Thailand and Indonesia have openly expressed interest in becoming Tesla's preferred location for a Gigafactory in South East Asia. In an interview on the sidelines of the 2022 G20 summit in Bali, Elon Musk stated that he is 'bullish' on Indonesia.
Despite these sentiments, Tesla has not made a significant impact in the country. This lack of progress is probably stinging a little more now that Tesla has opened a sales office in Malaysia and is presently in talks with the Thai government about setting up a production plant there.  Soc_CariCarz_Tesla-Model-3-03.jpgSoc_CariCarz_Tesla-Model-3-02.jpgSoc_CariCarz_Tesla-Model-3-05.jpg

Indonesia may be wondering if it is being passed over by Tesla and what the reasons are for this decision.

According to CNN, Thai government has suggested giving the EV giant a facility that is entirely green. As stated by the prime minister's secretary, Prommin Lertsuriyadej, they are in communication with the business at this time.
Prommin stated that Tesla representatives' most recent visit to Thailand was in November. During the same month, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin paid a visit to Tesla's Gigafactory in Fremont, California.

However, Thailand may be a difficult market for Tesla due to fierce competition from Chinese rival BYD, which surpassed Tesla to become the world's largest electric car company in the fourth quarter of 2023.

In June, Musk expressed interest in investing in India after meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York. However, specific details about this potential investment have not been revealed yet.
The exciting development that could have a big impact on Thailand's automotive industry is the possible establishment of a Tesla production facility there. All of this is speculation, though, until Tesla formally announces any manufacturing investments in the area.
