Fancy an all-electric commercial ‘van’ that’s practical, stylish and matched with equally high tech and performance? Well, if you happen to run a small business in France, then, this might just tickle your fancy…

In fact, Tesla France actually offers this rather uniquely-specced Model Y as a commercial EV. One big difference this Model Y pictured has over the regular passenger version is its strict two-seater layout. Its rear bench has been deleted altogether to grant a nearly unrivalled 2,158-litre cargo hauling space too.

Sure, the latter figure is nowhere near that offered by the likes of the upgraded new Toyota Hiace from UMWT, but you’ve got to admit this is a pretty cool sight - most EV panel vans simply lack style and substance that this Tesla has.

According to a LinkedIn post by Tesla France’s Senior Account Manager, Clement Maguet, Tesla France, this special variant of the highly popular Model Y is offered to business owners on a special request basis under its fleet services department.

Normal members of the public would not be able to order this 2-seater Model Y via the usual online ordering channel.

Clement further adds the reason behind the 2-seater variant is mainly aimed for tax savings reasons. In France, commercial vehicles with this configuration enable its buyer to fall under the commercial vehicle tax bracket, which is lower then private ownership. Based on our research, the normal tax rate (TVA Tax) is 20% in France.

This would also theoretically make more users who do not actually require a larger diesel van to switch to the Model Y - 2,158 litres is indeed plenty enough for any small or medium business. Clement also added there are roughly 6.3 million commercial vehicles in France, so there is potential for Tesla France to profits from this segment.

He also went on to add that with this new configuration, the Model Y’s driving range in this form would also be extended by an additional 30 KM, boasting a new WLTP number of 565 KM. From the images shared, the Model Y with the 2-seater configuration simply looks like any other Tesla Model Y with the rear seats folded down.

Before all of you get excited, this configuration is not something that is advertised openly and is specific to the French market only for now. Given Tesla’s openness to explore all possibilities, we won’t discount the possibility of this becoming a thing in the global commercial vehicles space.
